Many of you have asked for the source material we have been using to get the facts and figures quoted in Sunday School over the past several weeks. Here are some helpful resources to look at for a deeper picture of what is going on in the discussion surrounding the historical validity of Jesus and the Bible in general. Hal mentioned this great site that is really sort of a clearing house for articles posted on the web on a variety of interesting subjects. Pretty cool place to visit and browse through. It really is a good resource. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the content.
Here are a couple of good books on the subject. The first one is my favorite, Jesus Under Fire. This is a really good examination of the issues modern scholarship has with the historical Jesus and does a great job debunking them. Must read. Also check out The Historical Reliability of the Gospels, and The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? by renowned New Testament scholar, F. F. Bruce. Lastly, you might try Lee Strobel's The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith. Stoebel has several other "The Case for..." books that you might find interesting as well. They are written in layman's terms so they won't be a chore to wade through. Hal recommends Surpirsed by Faith as another book with good information that is an easy read. Let me know if you have any other questions. This is only scratching the surface. There are MANY more resources available. I would be more than happy to help you study all of this more deeply.
